Yes, we gave them praises already but want to again! God is truly working thru this band and
we couldn't wait to bring them to your attention. Nine Lashes makes it clear that they are investing
in the future of humanity. To our disappointment, too many bands today that are comprised of
Christians - whether on a Christian label or not - loose focus on what they envisioned from the
beginning. They either let the walk in the "here and now" devour them or they let the world
influence them instead of the other way around. NOT SO with Nine Lashes. We follow them on
Twitter and it is apparent from their tweets they are serious about getting their mission for God
absorbed by others and not letting the pressures absorb them.
Their words are solid and meaty - containing none of the usual ho hum lyrics you find in a lot of
music in all genres today; their music is lofty (in a great and large way) yet the musicality keeps
you entertained; and the heart of the matter they are called to is driven home with every song.
Our interview with them is serious, and fun, and telling.... so please go listen to their songs. Even if
you don't normally like the rock sound you will be glad you listened... oh, and be sure to hear
"Double or Nothing" - for which we have one word.... "powerful".
The name Nine Lashes comes from the "Cat of Nine Tails". If you don't know what that is... it was
an instrument commonly used for the beating of criminals in the days of and before Jesus' time on earth.
It is commonly believed to have been used on Christ before his crucifixion. So even the band name
is yet another reminder to us (and we are sure to them as well) of what Christ suffered for us all.

The band consists of five members Jeremy Dunn (Vocals), Adam Jefferson (Guitar), Jon Jefferson,(Guitar),
Jared Lankford (Bass Guitar), and Noah Terrell ( Drums) - and you can meet them all below in the interview
with us.
Nine Lashes Interview
7Cubed:
How did you all come together to form the band?
Nine Lashes:
Well, actually there were two founding members of Nine Lashes, Adam(guitarist) and Keith who was the drummer. It so happened the lead singer of Nine Lashes was leaving at the same time Jeremy Dunn's band was breaking up. Jeremy was invited to sing and joined. A little earlier Jon, Adam's younger brother had joined and Jared our bassist. Noah joined the band in 2008 and that is how Nine Lashes formed as it is today.
7Cubed:
We would like to know what it was like to work with renowned mega-producer Travis Wyrick?
Nine Lashes:
Jeremy- "life changing";
Adam- "relaxing";
Noah- "a great learning experience";
Jon- "amazingly great to learn from someone like Travis";
Jared- "I was devastated to find out I have no wake-boarding ability at all :) ."
7Cubed:
Tell our readers about the artist or band who when listening to them made you want to pick up an instrument and form a band?
Nine Lashes:
Jeremy- "Well back in my teen years Brian Head Welch";
Noah- "POD"; Jared- "Back in the day, Metallica";
Adam- "My neighbor and mentor who was in another band for years, Ray Parker"; Jon -"Kutless".
7Cubed:
Your song "Double Or Nothing" has a great sound, what is the meaning behind the lyrics of the song?
Nine Lashes:
Well thank you. It's about giving your all for Christ and ignoring any fear of failure.
7Cubed:
What songs are you guys listening to? Favorite bands?
Nine Lashes: Adam- "Thousand Foot Krutch"; Jeremy-"Thrice";
Noah-"The Devil Wears Prada"; Jared-"Underoath";
Jon-"Thousand Foot Crutch".
7Cubed: We hear you are going on tour with the band Hymns of Eden. Can you tell us a little about the tour and working with them?
Nine Lashes:
We went to record a song in their studio a couple of months ago. They live in Mississippi and we live in Alabama. The guys blew us away with their kindness towards us. We Believe God is putting this tour together! We hope for many souls to be saved. We hope to unite the body and give a sense of renewal and fresh purpose to everyone we touch. On this tour we want to get out there with everyone and meet you all. We want to know who you are and where you are at in your life. We want to talk with you, pray with you, rejoice with you and even if need be, be sad with you. We want to share Christ.
7Cubed:
Are there any amazing stories that touched you guys because your music changed someone's life?
Nine Lashes: Yes as a matter of fact one comes to mind that I don't think any of us will forget. In 2007 we were playing at a Church of God near Birmingham. The next week we had to go play a gig in Kingsport, Tennesee. We had no money and it was not a paid gig. We had no idea how were going to get there. We played at the Church of God and afterward a man walked up to us and handed us a check for around $350! Adam said, 'Now we know how we are getting to Kingsport next week!" We went up there.
It was about a five hour drive and one guy showed up to see us besides the staff. We got up and got ready to play but the Holy Spirit was so strong in that place
we knew we couldn't play first, so Adam preached and so did Jeremy. Jeremy asked the guy would he like to receive Christ? The guy answered "Yes."
Well he prayed to receive Christ and everyone was ecstatic!! So then we were all pumped up about playing for the guy. We got up to play and all of a sudden the guy said, "Hey guys I have to go. My Dad is outside and if I do not go now he will really get mad!" So he left. Well we played for the staff, but we know had we not heeded to the Holy Spirit that guy would not have received Christ!
So I guess it's a case of how 'not playing' our music touched someone!!"
- Jon
7Cubed:
Wow - are we glad we asked that question! That is an awesome story!! Thanks again guys for
the great interview!!! May God Bless your work.

The Heart of 7Cubed
I learned late in life to think about God in a different way. In a different way compared to when I was young; compared to when I was a teenager; compared to
when I was newly married. Sadly I didn't learn early on to know God in a different way; different then others kids; different than other teens; different
than other wives. I suppose though that I always knew that we each grow in a different way! It took some hard things in my life to help me to know that if He were literally standing beside me in my life on this earth, He would be incredibly sad that I didn't talk to Him as much as I do to my friends and family. I had always
called Him a friend, but I recognized the truth. I use to call on Him only at certain times- that nightly prayer, that somewhat thankful occasion, and definitely for the too
often distress prayer. I did praise Him and thank Him on many occasions but there was certainly something missing in my life early on.
It was an eye (and heart) awakening realization that I should be LIVING in prayer. It really is THAT simple. I don't mean praying more than 1 time a day. I don't
mean specific formalities of praying.
I mean living every day, all day, 24/7 - in a way that is wholly and holy the Lord's.
I mean turning to your divine friend who understands every thought you have.
I thought, "What could bring me closer to God and make my life infinitely better than simply relying on Him for my peace every second I breathe?
I urge you to try it and in no time your outlook regarding everything will change for the better. It is all a choice.
Be Blessed, Heather

This band really has a deep rooted gift for bringing words as a presentation of worship wrapped in music
that will touch your soul. Don't miss their new album - The Hope that Lies in You. Their song "How He Loves Us"
will make you think about the fact that you love Him because He first loved you. What a gifted a compilation!
Check out this heartfelt video of "Close to Your Heart" - it reminds us of an old home video
which adds wonder to the gripping vocals and melody.
..
This guitar driven rock strikes a chord with listeners young and old. Their song "Monsters"
seems to encourage us to live with good aggressive passion making sure we go into this world
secure in who we are in in the Lord. "Be a monster not a machine"... boy does that sound like
the masses who just live their lives in a "motion" - a repetitive slumber. We instead must go
with gusto as we are led. It is too hard to make it on our own; depend on the Lord to go out
with confidence in Him. Burning Yesterday rocks!!
Reinventing Country Music????
Ok - we KNOW you remember Phil Stacey from season 6 (2007) of AI.
He finished in the top 5 that year to go on to make a country album
getting a song into the top 30 charts. But he is now making Christian
music which seems to come natural. We say "Thank you, Phil! Bring it
on!" We need more Country Christian music to listen to!
His new Christian Cd will be awesome, no doubt!!
